Local Post Office Closures Imminent
…
Consultation Period for Redditch Closures Due This Month
At 10am on the 27th August, the six week period of consultation about the closure of post offices in Redditch will begin. This comes as part of the countrywide process of government post office cuts, where the West Midlands is one of the last areas to be looked at.
Karen Lumley has been campaigning for months against the cuts, and has already received many calls from concerned local residents. Under the proposals, 2,500 post offices across the country will be lost. This implies that Redditch’s allocation of closures could be three. This is on top of all those post offices that have already closed here in Redditch causing the loss of vital services in areas like Abbey and Batchley.
Karen said: “Cutting services to local residents is not the way forward for a Government looking to balance its books. Post office services are vital and I am committed to campaigning for no cuts at all in Redditch.”
This week, hundreds residents of Redditch brought their signed cards campaigning against the closure of the post office card account to Karen. This is a campaign that is in addition to Karen’s existing post office campaign.
Karen continued: “The anger felt across the district at the Government is huge. The cutting of the post office card account is another nail in the coffin for post offices, and comes after the government has cut numerous other post office services, including providing TV licenses and car tax.”
